by Hop Nation USA's Adam ![]() As a functioning adult, it’s difficult to convince myself that making waffles at 8:15 at night is a good idea. The mess, the knowledge that I don’t have at least one needed ingredient on hand, and the fact that late night indigestion is slowly becoming a reality all are colliding to convince me that this is all really a bad idea. Not only that, I’m already in my PJs, so going and getting breakfast at the diner down the road just isn’t happening. Fortunately, the good people of Rusty Rail have solved that problem with their new Waffle Sauce Maple Pecan Imperial Brown Ale, a hefty beer that was created to take on the uptick in using maple in beers in the last few years.

11/8/2017 0 Comments If You Like Only Bourbon, Don’t Drink This Beer. If you LOVE Bourbon, DRINK this beer. Review: Southern Tier Monstrosusby Hop Nation USA's Sam ![]() Wait a second, do you really mean if I only like Bourbon, then I shouldn’t drink this beer? Well no, you are welcome to try anything that your little heart desires, I’m just prepping you for the review that you are about to read. How about we compromise? You read the review first and then determine if you want to try the beer. Sound good? Ok, let’s get started. I had the pleasure of joining a group of old co-workers this past Friday night for some conversation and a few beers. Needless to say, since we all tend to enjoy a tasty brew more often than not, we opted for the Southern Tier brewpub on the north shore of Pittsburgh. Southern Tier is always a great location as their brewpub comes equipped with about 20 different ST beers on tap at any given time. by Hop Nation USA's Steve ![]() We were recently asked on Episode 35 about coffee beers that actually taste like coffee. Apparently, one of our listeners had trouble finding beers which deliver on their promise of effusing those roasty and bitter flavors. It was a pretty easy question to answer with beers like Bell’s Java Stout, Green Flash’s Cosmic Ristretto, Founder’s Breakfast Stout, and Pizza Boy’s Sunny Side Up out there. I personally found it harder to try and think of a beer that wasn’t good on the coffee flavor. by Hop Nation USA's Steve ![]() If Ben Franklin lived in 2017, he'd say, "...in this world nothing can be said to be certain, except death, taxes, and pumpkin spice in the fall." I've made my peace with the annual basic cold that spreads across America infecting cookies, cakes, cereal, coffee, and even tortilla chips. Even craft beer isn't immune. You just have to wait for it to run its course. But while you wait, why not learn to enjoy? I know I have. I actually look forward to some pumpkin beers, and even look forward to new ones. Like New Belgium's Atomic Pumpkin, The Epic Imperial Pumpkin Porter is new to me this year. I'm also big fan of Epic's other offerings like the Big Bad Baptista. So how does this stack up? by Hop Nation USA's Steve ![]() When you think key lime pie, you probably also think of Key West, Florida, the pie’s birthplace. Maybe you think about New Orleans, or even just the American South in general. Where you probably don’t think about is Kansas. So it was a bit of a surprise to me, when I found this Key Lime Pie beer by Tallgrass Brewing from Manhattan, Kansas. The only way I can associate Kansas with pie is through the innumerable truck stops populated by Flos and Dotties waiting to serve up a slice at the counter. So what does Kansas know about key lime? By Hop Nation USA's Steve ![]() Welcome to the first installment of Brew & View a series of movie reviews and beers that go with them. Members of Hop Nation USA will be pairing movies new and old with beers they feel appropriately will enhance your viewing experience. For anyone who grew up in the 80s & 90s as a Sci-Fi nerd, there’s a good chance you’d seen Ridley Scott’s original Blade Runner or had read the Philip K. Dick novella Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? As a fan of both, it’s an inexorable reflex for me to not compare this sequel to the original works. I was more than hesitant to find out the sequel was being made in the first place. It really had everything against it, in my mind. The overdone reboot/sequel culture in Hollywood seems to just make everything worse. There was no ...Electric Sheep sequel written by Dick, so that means the screenplay had to be mostly original. Ridley Scott was not returning to direct (although after watching Alien: Covenant this may have been a blessing.) With that said, Blade Runner 2049 is a fantastic movie. |
